EC issue show cause notice to BJP's Abhijit Gangopadhyay over remarks against CM
Trinamool Congress has expelled Somnath Bhattacharya, the Youth President of Ward No. 10 of Panihati Municipality, on charges of financial corruption and unethical activities. The party has taken this step to maintain its transparency.
Sources within the Panihati Trinamool Congress stated that Bhattacharya was accused of embezzling a significant amount of money by promising government accommodations in the municipality area. Apart from being expelled from the party, Bhattacharya has also been removed from his position in the Panihati Municipality. Partha Chowdhary, the President of North Panihati Youth Trinamool Congress, confirmed that the party leadership had received numerous complaints against Bhattacharya.
Previously, Minister Sobhandev Chattopadhyay had also removed him from his office due to these allegations. The continuous complaints against him led to his expulsion from the party.
The BJP has sarcastically criticized Trinamool Congress on this issue, suggesting that this expulsion decision is an attempt to prove the party's transparency in the state. BJP leader Kishore Kar highlighted that Trinamool Congress has a history of corruption in the state.
